Keysight Multimeter U1252B Review: Why It’s the Best Multimeter for Electricians (Based on 200+ Rush Orders)

If you're an electrician, the Keysight U1252B is probably the best multimeter you can buy right now. Period.

I'm not saying that because I work for Keysight (I don't). I'm saying it because over the last six years, I've coordinated over 200 rush orders for field-service electricians and maintenance engineers. When a production line is down and a client is losing $5,000 an hour, the tool in your hand better not be the weak link. Let's be clear: Fluke makes excellent meters. The 87V is a legend. And Klein is great for a budget. I'm not attacking them. But here's where the U1252B wins:

The downside? The user interface is a little quirky. The menu navigation takes a day to get used to. And the price: the U1252B retails around $600-700. That's about $200 more than a comparable Fluke. In my experience, the extra cost pays for itself in the first year of avoided downtime.

The 'N93' Factor (And What It Means for You)

One keyword that comes up a lot is 'n93'. That's not a meter you'll find in a catalog—it's a ruggedized variant made for defense contractors. I've handled a couple for a client. It's essentially a U1252B in a hardened case with some MIL-SPEC connectors. The point is: the core technology is the same. If the military trusts it, I trust it.

Is the U1252B for Everyone? No.

I have to be honest here. If you're an electrician who does mostly residential work—swapping outlets, running new circuits—you do not need a $600 meter. A $120 Klein or a $200 Fluke 107 is perfectly fine. The U1252B is for the electrician who works on commercial HVAC, motor controls, automated machinery, or datacenter power. The person who, when a machine is down, needs to find the fault in minutes, not hours. For that person, the U1252B is the best tool for the job.
